LSU fans who donated to the College World Series Jell-o Shot Challenge helped the Tigers place third in the overall competition money-wise this year even though they weren’t in Omaha. Mike Manning with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank said LSU fans donated almost $9,300.
“We’re probably gonna put it right to food because that’s a big challenge for us right now. Our inventory is down and the purchase price for us to acquire food is up just like it is for everyone else.”
Manning said it’s greatly needed because he said they are seeing people who typically didn’t need assistance but due to inflation, they are having to turn to the food bank for help.
“Because they can’t make it work, they can’t afford the groceries, they can’t afford the gas to get to work. All those things have a really significant impact on the community, especially on the working poor.”
Because Louisiana is number one in childhood and senior food insecurity,
“at the two ends of the life-continuum where they’re least able to do anything about that situation.”
