The Allstate Sugar Bowl Fan Fest in New Orleans will be part of “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve” being broadcast on ABC tonight. Tonight will feature performances by country artists Maren Morris and Grammy-nominated Florida Georgia Line as part of the live telecast. Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser said it’s great exposure for the Big Easy.
“What a great opportunity to highlight New Orleans and the state of New Orleans on New Year’s Eve when you are thinking about where we are going to go on vacation next year,” said Nungesser.
In 2018, Florida Georgia Line broke every record from the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts when they spent 50 weeks at the top spot with the song “Meant to Be,” Nungesser said after the clock strikes midnight in the eastern time zone, it’s all focused on the performances in New Orleans.
“After they drop that ball in New York, we’ve still got an hour, so what a great opportunity to have all those eyes shifted over to New Orleans,” said Nungesser.
With the value that comes with the publicity, Nungesser said the state could never afford to pay for the level of coverage they will receive on national TV tonight.
“I think last year, 30 million people watched the show. A 30 second commercial for the Grammys cost about $2.5 million. More people watched the show last year than watched the Grammys,” said Nungesser.
For those interested in attending the Allstate Fan Fest, it’s free and gates for all the activities open at noon at the Jax Brewery parking lot.
