Two 18-year-olds were killed in a head-on crash in Lafourche Parish involving an underage immigrant driver, who authorities say was impaired. State Police Trooper Ross Brennan said 18-year-old Axel Flores-Cordova of Honduras slammed head on into a vehicle on Highway 3090 near the Fourchon area.
“18-year-old Rylan Oncale and 18-year-old Taliyah Crochet, they did succumb to their injuries from it. There was two other teenagers that were in the back seat of the vehicle that also had serious injuries that were transported to an out of area hospital.”
Brennan did not have any information on whether Flores-Cordova is in the United States legally. He has been booked into the Lafourche Parish detention center on multiple charges.
“Two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular injury as well as other driving-related citations such as not wearing a seatbelt, crossing the center line, and no driver’s license.”
The crash happened shortly after 1 AM and it claimed the lives of 18-year-old Rylan Oncale of Raceland and 18-year-old Taliyah Crochet of Houma. Brennan said Flores-Cordova’s blood alcohol concentration was nearly seven times over the underage legal limit.
“The limit is so low, it’s only 0.02, that it’s very easy to become impaired, so here we have a driver who’s nearly seven-times that limit as well as significantly over the legal limit if they were an adult, so there’s definitely some bad choices here.”
