The Louisiana Department of Revenue sent Notice of Unclaimed Property letters to 18,801 individual and business taxpayers reminding them to claim their refunds before they are transferred by law to the Unclaimed Property Division of the state treasurer’s office. Department of Revenue spokesperson Byron Henderson.
“These are refunds that went out as paper checks that were never cashed and so taxpayers have till September 6th to claim those refunds before they become officially unclaimed property.”
The total amount of unclaimed refunds due for transfer is over $15 million, and you can claim your refund one of two ways.
“Go to revenue.louisiana.gov/UnclaimedRefund or you can complete and return to us the voucher attached to that letter which is dated July 26, 2024.”
Henderson says any refunds not claimed by the deadline remain the property of the taxpayer.
“and so they can just claim them later from the unclaimed property division at the State Treasures office.”
The Department of Revenue will issue paper checks to all taxpayers submitting claims electronically or with the voucher by the September 6th deadline.
