Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser
Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser has been in Detroit this week sharing ideas with his counterparts from other states at the National Lt Governor’s Conference. He says he looks forward to catching up with old friends and making new ones at the bipartisan gathering, And while they might differ when it comes to politics.
“We find common ground, where we can support each other’s efforts, and we leave the bickering to everyone else,” Nungesser said.
Among the ideas they share are how to improve education, cyber security, and healthcare. Nungesser says the idea to move Keep Louisiana Beautiful under the umbrella of his office came from Tennessee and other states who’ve been successful in cleaning up their roadways.
“Like our idea for the private-public partnership for our state parks, I was able to get that from the Georgia Lieutenant Governor. And the way they do that to fund their state parks and make them profitable,” Nungesser said.
Among the ideas he’s sharing with other states is to get them on board with supporting an inspection fee on imported seafood. He’s also lobbying to bring the conference to New Orleans in the future.
“I need to get on the rotation to come back. They were there several years ago. A great group to have, great for tourism. It’s just a great group to learn from each other,” Nungesser said.
