Longtime Ragin Cajuns baseball’s head coach Tony Robichaux is recovering following open heart surgery Monday afternoon. UL- Lafayette Athletics spokesperson Patrick Crawford says Robichaux went to the hospital Sunday night and found out he was experiencing a cardiac event.
“Coach Robichaux heading into the weekend was probably perfectly fine, but Sunday evening he was hospitalized and however you want to categorize it was a heart attack,” said Crawford.
Robichaux, who just completed his 25th season, is expected to make a full recovery.
“He isn’t somebody that would take to being out of commission to lightly, so we are happy to know he’s recovering,” said Crawford.
Crawford says they should no more in the coming week on when Coach Robichaux can return to work on a fulltime basis.
Robichaux is the 8th active winningest coach in NCAA history and has 914 wins for the Ragin Cajuns. But UL-Lafayette is coming off a disappointing 28-31 injury plagued season.
