A pair of Louisianians have been floated as potential cabinet members under Donald Trump, should he win re-election next month.
Politico says outgoing Congressman Garret Graves could be considered for transportation secretary and former Governor Bobby Jindal could be tapped for secretary of health and human services.
Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says Graves becoming transportation secretary would be beneficial for Louisiana.
“You’ve got the highway department here in Louisiana struggling,” Pinsonat notes. “(Gov.) Jeff Landry’s trying to tear it apart and rebuild it, and we lack money.”
Pinsonat says Jindal is more than qualified to run health and human services, and Louisiana would see great benefit to that.
“Louisiana has 40-plus percent of its population on Medicaid,” says Pinsonat, “so it would be another big plus for Louisiana.”
In addition, the 53-year-old Jindal would bring youth to the White House.
“He’s still very young when he finished his eight years (as governor),” Pinsonat says. “He’s still very young politically when you’re looking at Washington and the age of the current president (Biden, 81) and Trump (78).”
Jindal was the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals when he was 24 years old.
Pinsonat says whether Trump ultimately picks Jindal, should he win the White House, is a big “if.”
“He wasn’t exactly one of Trump’s favorites,” Pinsonat notes. “He went after Trump, but I’m sure they’ve made up since then. But will he take Jindal? Jindal certainly has the expertise, that’s for sure.”
Polls show a very tight race between Trump and Kamala Harris in the final days before Election Day.
