A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 8-year-old Diellon Daniels in what Sgt. L’Jean McKneely described as a “targeted attack” in Baton Rouge. 22-year-old Kendrick Profit faces charges including first-degree murder, attempted murder, obstruction of justice, and illegal use of weapons in the drive by shooting near Swan Avenue. McKneely says the community was crucial in the investigation
.
“I’d like to thank the community for working with us, cooperating, and giving us information that has been vital to this arrest.”
The car’s pregnant driver, identified as the mother of the victims, was unharmed. However, her three children in the car were struck by bullets. The shooting caused the mother to go into labor the following day. McKneely says all three boys were hospitalized, with one critically injured and two seriously injured. Tragically, 8-year-old Diellon Daniels died to his injuries.
“We want to do our best to give the family of the victim some comfort in knowing that we are pushing hard to hold those persons that are responsible for the shooting accountable for their action.”
The investigation continues as the community mourns the loss of the young boy and seeks justice for the family impacted by this violent attack. McKneely says if anyone has information on the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers.
“We want to continue to push forward with this investigation, and we ask that the community to continue to work with us in putting those persons responsible not only this act but other violent acts behind bars.”
