Louisiana’s economy showed mixed progress according to the Committee of 100’s (C100) year-end report, highlighting faster wage growth in northern Louisiana compared to southern regions. Wages statewide have increased 25-percent since 2019, with northern areas experiencing a 31-percent rise, while the southern region averaged just 10-percent. Committee of 100 CEO Adam Knapp says that’s a great wage change across the state.
“It’s not keeping up with the southern average, but it definitely shows significant gain for all workers across Louisiana since 2019.”
Job growth was led by the New Orleans and Baton Rouge metro areas, with healthcare, construction, and professional services projected as the fastest-growing sectors through 2032. Knapp says healthcare alone is expected to create 20,000 new jobs, with high demand for registered nurses, medical assistants, and home health aides.
“So, whether you’re in South Louisiana or North Louisiana there’s a lot of openings coming now and in future in Healthcare.”
The Meta data center in Richland Parish demonstrates progress. Knapp says its one of the most significant economic development deals in the country.
“And it’s going to have ripple effects probably for the entire decade, and not just in that part of Northeast Louisiana but across the entire state.”
