Do you have your REAL ID yet?
If not, you’d better get a move on it.
“Beginning on May 7th of this year, the federal government will require a REAL ID driver’s license or identification card for those who want to fly with a state-issued credential,” says Matt Boudreaux with the Office of Motor Vehicles.
To help people meet that deadline, the OMV is opening select offices on select Saturdays so that people won’t have to take time off work.
The offices in the following locations will be open from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on March 15th, April 2nd and May 3rd:
- Alexandria
- Baton Rouge
- Houma
- Lafayette
- Lake Charles
- Livingston
- Monroe
- New Orleans (Veterans Blvd.)
- Shreveport
- Westbank (Oakwood Center Mall)
Last Saturday proved to be such a hit that they’re adding another Saturday this week.
“We had a great response, a great turnout, at all ten of those locations,” says Boudreaux. “So we’re going to go and do it again this Saturday at some of the same, but a few different, offices.”
The offices will again be open 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the following locations (new locations in bold):
- Baton Rouge
- Bossier
- Monroe
- New Orleans (Veterans Blvd.)
- Reserve
- Shreveport
- Westbank (Oakwood Center Mall)
- Winnsboro
“If you work during the week, book an appointment if they have appointments available,” says Boudreaux. “We are accepting walk-ins as well.”
When May 7th rolls around, you will not be able to use your driver’s license to confirm your identity at the TSA checkpoint unless it’s REAL ID compliant.
“We obviously don’t want Louisiana residents being stuck at the airport or waiting in a longer line while they try to verify their identity after that date,” Boudreaux says.
