Senator Bill Cassidy (R) - Louisiana
Republican Bill Cassidy’s re-election campaign announces the US Senator from Baton Rouge raised a little more than two-million dollars during the second quarter of this year and he now has nine million in cash on hand. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says Cassidy needs to be well-funded with two well-known Republican candidates challenging him in an April primary.
“April is D-Day for him, he’s got to get by that and raising money now is the main purpose of his whole efforts, get enough money in the bank and have a lot of money to spend,” Pinsonat said.
State Treasurer John Fleming and state senator Blake Miguez from Acadiana are challenging Cassidy in the newly created Republican primary. Fleming and Miguez have yet to report their updated campaign finance numbers.
Pinsonat expects Cassidy to build on his campaign warchest.
“He’s a sitting U.S. Senator, with the party in power and he’s a big player in the United States Senate, I think the amount of money he can raise is probably double than what he has on hand,” Pinsonat said.
The Republican Party Primary is April 18th.
But Pinsonat expects you’ll see TV ads after Labor Day weekend promoting Cassidy’s record as a U.S. Senator.
“It’s not like he’s raising money early, this election is fast approaching,” Pinsonat.
