If you hold a library card at the state library or at the library systems in Iberville, Livingston, Tangipahoa or Rapides parishes, you can now use your card to get into a museum! State Librarian Meg Placke says a limited number of passes are available.
“The libraries that are participating so far have access to passes that can be checked out to our state museums. We also have a partnership with the National World War II Museum,” Placke explained.
Placke says this is an expansion of the State Library’s “Check Out Louisiana” program, which was originally developed to allow cardholders to obtain passes to state parks.
“We opened this up with the parks so that people could go and see the parks and then, hopefully, continue to visit the parks. It’s the same with our museum,” Placke said.
Placke says just like with the state parks, the goal is to get people to visit the state museums, and similar programs have been very successful in other states.
“We’ve seen this happen in other states that have these programs. People are more inclined to then continue to use and go to our museums,” Placke noted.
Eligible cardholders can go to check out Louisiana.org to reserve an electronic pass to any of the eligible museums.
