Two fishermen drowned on Sunday at Dorcheat Bayou in Webster Parish. Sheriff Jason Parker says it’s believed one of the fishermen fell from a chair into the water and the other ended up in the water trying to rescue the other.
“We don’t know exactly what the circumstances were. Maybe possibly somebody failing in and the other one tried to help, and just a tragic incident,” Parker said.
The bodies of 54-year-old Annie Buggs of Bernice and 41-year-old Deandrea Ford of Homer were found in the water, along with a chair. Parker says relatives tell investigators they did not know how to swim.
“We think that somebody may have fell in, and then somebody offered to try to get the chair out there to them to extend to them to help pull them in. And then, obviously, maybe got pulled in themselves,” Parker explained.
Both bodies have been sent to Little Rock, Arkansas for autopsy. Parker says they should get the results back in about two weeks, but foul play is not suspected.
“They had fish in their ice chest. They were, obviously, having a good day as far as fishing. We may not ever know exactly what happened,” Parker said.
