Some notable people will be aboard Louisiana’s float in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, New Year’s Day. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says the people onboard are as diverse as the state itself.
“The Oyster Queen will be riding, the Jambalaya Queen. We also have Commissioner Mike Strain,” Nungesser said.

Lieutenant Governor Nungesser says those three and all the other riders are sponsored by tourism organizations and convention and visitor bureaus throughout the state, with the notable exception of New Orleans.
“Explore Houma, Tangipahoa (Parish Convention & Visitors Bureau), Visit the Northshore, Cajun Coast, St. Mary Parish, Ascension Parish Tourist Commission, have all partnered with us,” Nungesser noted.
Nungesser says those who are riding on the float will be doing a lot more than just simply putting on a smile and waving for the crowd and the TV cameras.
“They’ll be out there for several days helping us decorate the float, doing interviews all over the world, talking about their city, their town, all the great things to do in their area of the state,” Nungesser explained.
The previously-announced musical guest aboard the float, named “Gulf to Gumbo,” is Louisiana’s own “American Idol” runner up John Foster.
