The Louisiana Wildlife Federation has released the second edition of its “First Time Fishing in the Atchafalaya Basin” activity booklet. Rebecca Triche, the executive director of the Louisiana Wildlife Federation, says the booklet is geared toward young children who are interested in fishing.
“It introduces young people to fishing. It teaches them about baiting a hook, casting the line, and watching the line,” Triche said.
The first edition of the “First Time Fishing” booklet was published in 2014 by Anna Wilson. Triche says the new edition includes several updates.
“We’ve updated the information on free public fishing piers in the basin. We also updated some of the illustrations and we updated the contact info for our partner, which is the Atchafalaya Heritage Area,” Triche noted.
Triche says the new edition release brings plenty of opportunities for both the youth and the Louisiana Wildlife Federation.
“It’s been an opportunity for us to distribute it among young people. And now, it’s more than 10 years later, and it’s time to introduce a new generation. Update the story, update the illustrations, and update the information about enjoying the Atchafalaya,” Triche explained.
The activity booklet is free, and it can be downloaded on the Louisiana Wildlife Federation website.
