Seven suspects have been arrested for insurance fraud in a staged crash in Orleans Parish that occurred in October 2016. Through the investigation, detectives determined Chevy Malibu and a rented GMC pickup truck were used in the collision. State Police spokesperson Sr. Trooper Melissa Matey said after filing the crash report with police, that’s when the suspects went after insurance claims.
“They filed false claims for injuries and then for the property damage on both of the vehicles. They did this with the intentions of receiving a monetary settlement,” said Matey.
Matey saod through an investigation, detectives secured a confession from one of the suspects.
“Following that, arrest warrants were issued on all seven of the people. Six of them are from the St. Bernard Parish area and one is from New Orleans,” said Matey.
“All seven are looking at charges of automotive insurance fraud, criminal damage to property with the intent to defraud, injuring public records, and filing false public records,” said Matey.
