If you missed out on eating crawfish during the Easter weekend, now is the time to get them and at a lower price. Cofounder of the Crawfish app, Laney King, says dock prices fell 50¢ per pound on Monday, which has resulted in live crawfish selling for less than $3 a pound.
“You can get a sack of crawfish, easily find one for under $100 right now. Boil them with eight friends, each throw up $10 to $15, or you can go to your favorite restaurant and get them for about $5 or $6 a pound,” King said.
King says Easter is the highest-demand weekend of the year for crawfish, but once that passes, demand softens slightly, but supply remains strong and that combination leads to lower prices.
“From a consumer point of view, we’re going to start seeing lower prices as the crawfish shops open for the weekend. But you should be able to get crawfish for about 50¢ a pound cheaper at your favorite spot,” King explained.
King says the post-Easter price drop is a typical seasonal pattern.
“We might see one more price drop before Mother’s Day, in the coming weeks, but that’s our prediction. We think they’re going to stay at this nice price,” King said.
