Shreveport police are investigating an early Saturday morning drive-by shooting left a one-month-old child dead in the Sunset Acres neighborhood. Police Chief Ben Raymond believes there is someone out there that has details that can lead to an arrest, and says they need to come forward.
“If you have information and you are withholding it from the police, then you are as guilty as the person who fired numerous rounds from a high-powered rifle into a house full of innocent children. I don’t know how you can sleep at night,” said Raymond.
Authorities have identified the infant victim as Queen Dean, who was struck in the head when a bullet entered her family’s home. Raymond says while whoever is responsible for the crime cannot undo, they should accept responsibility for the action, adding the message to those at fault is clear.
“I would like to think that you did not intentionally kill an infant, but the fact is, an innocent life was taken from her mother and from her family in this heinous act of violence. You need to speak up and come forward,” said Raymond.
Raymond says his department is leading an effort of community support and citizen engagement to reduce violent crime in the city.
“WE can all do better. We can’t rely on law enforcement to prevent all violent crime. We need a change of heart in our community. We need to unite as one, and we all have a role if we want to end violence,” said Raymond.
