Terrebonne Parish is diversifying its economy; and with it will come hundreds of new jobs. Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois says NovaSpark Energy Systems is expanding by not only expanding its hydrogen generator manufacturing facility in West Monroe, but also establishing an operation in Houma.
“It’s almost 600 direct and indirect jobs combined. It’s just a great combination, and it’s the ‘all-the-above’ energy approach that we’ve taken, that Louisiana has led in energy for so long; and we’re going to lead in the future as well,” Bourgeois explained.
Bourgeois says this is especially a game changer for Houma and Terrebonne Parish, especially in light of a downturn in oil and gas.
“This is the future of energy, right? This is hydrogen. This is hydrogen generator manufacturing; but it’s in what has historically been an oil and gas hub,” Bourgeios noted.
Bourgeois says this announcement speaks for the quality of Louisiana’s workforce and Louisiana’s future potential.
“We want Louisiana legacy industries to lead in the future as they have in the past. And what a great example of a community, that has really been a leader in the past in the oil and gas world, helping us lead in the future in the hydrogen world,” Bourgeios said.
