Senator Bill Cassidy is speaking out against the proposed deal with Iran to end the war and re-open the Strait of Hormuz. Cassidy says if it goes through, the deal makes the entire U.S.-led operation in vain.
“If the initial goals were to make sure that Iran couldn’t get a nuclear weapon, to keep them from getting a ballistic missile, to decrease their ability to make conventional weapons or to fund proxies, and every now and then the President would say, ‘Regime change,’ everyone failed,” Landry said.
Cassidy says the deal strikes him as what he terms “JCPOA 2.0,” which was the deal that President Obama struck with Iran, which he also opposed. He says this deal will cost the U.S. and the American people dearly.
“Iran’s going to have brand-new infrastructure, courtesy of this deal, costing either the U.S. taxpayer or our allies billions of dollars,” Landry said.
The Trump administration says the deal says Iran will not procure or develop nuclear weapons.
Cassidy says furthermore, the U.S. just gave Iran a massive amount of ammunition for future negotiations that it cannot undo.
“Iran has discovered the Strait of Hormuz is an economic choke point, which the west cannot tolerate. And now, they’ve never used it before, I can promise you they’re going to use it in the future,” Landry noted.
