A voting system will be undergoing testing for certification Wednesday morning in Baton Rouge.
Secretary of State Nancy Landry says after five voting systems and one ballot marking device have been previously certified, the Smartmatic VSR1 2.1 will now be tested.
“We had a request to do more certifications for component parts of previous vendors that were certified, as well as this one additional vendor that wanted to be certified,” said Secretary Landry.
The testing will happen at the Louisiana State Archives (3851 Essen Ln., Baton Rouge) from 9:00 a.m. to noon — and the best part is, you’re invited.
“It is open to the public for them to see the demonstration,” Landry says.
The state is looking to select a new voting system by the end of this year, and Landry says they’re still on track to meet that goal.
“After this happens, we’re hoping to go right into the procurement phase,” says Landry. “And any additional vendors who want to be certified, it will not be for this procurement because we’re going to close it after this.”
