The Halloween & Costume Association is pushing an effort to have Halloween celebrations on the last Saturday of October. Founder and CEO of Pet Krewe and HCA member Allison Albert says the idea is to hold more of the festivities on the weekend will help kids with a day to recover after a candy binge.
“There were a lot of complaints from school teachers, either in regards to absentees or kids just having that sugar tank and that dip that they get after eating a whole bag of chocolates,” said Albert.
Albert says more awareness for celebrations on a weekend will lead to safer Halloween experiences.
“This really helps people in terms of safety to make sure that you always know, ‘Okay, I can mark off on my calendar that last Saturday, watch out, the kids are out,’ and just be a little more cautious,” said Albert.
Albert says the group is not attempting to remove Halloween from October 31st but add to the celebration.
“Its not a matter of moving Halloween off of October 31, I believe we can also agree that is sacrilegious. It is more about embracing the last Saturday of the month of October, in order to fully celebrate Halloween,” said Albert.
