Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser is in Japan on a 10-day trip aimed at boosting tourism from that country. Nungesser points out that Japan is the number-two international traveler to America, and he wants to attract as many of those travelers as he can.
“Whenever we’re able to bring our partners abroad, cook some good Louisiana seafood, bring some good music and interact with those travel agents directly, we see great response in them booking trips of groups to come to Louisiana,” Nungesser noted.
Nungesser says prior trips have yielded very good results.
“The federal government gave us $300,000 a year, for three years, to go to three new markets: India, Spain and Italy. And we’ve seen big improvements in those three destinations coming to America, coming to Louisiana,” Nungesser explained.
Nungesser says international travelers want to make the most out of their time in the U.S., and Nungesser says that’s why it’s important to promote the entire state.
“They stay longer, they spend more money, and they don’t just want to go to one city or town. They want to get off the beaten path and see how Americans live,” Nungesser said.
