Saints owner Gayle Benson was uncharacteristically blunt when addressing the team’s 1-4 start. She said the performance has been unacceptable, and head coach Kellen Moore says everyone in the building wants the same thing.
“She, like all of us, we want better results. That’s how this business is; we’ve got great guys in this building that are doing everything they can to find the formula, and all we can control is moving forward as far as playing better, coaching better, giving ourselves opportunities moving forward,” Moore said.
Moore says Benson’s comments will not change the team’s preparation because they were already focused on getting better. He says they work in a results-based business and things will need to improve.
“It’s where we’re at. We’re 1-4, missed a few opportunities right there; and again, we all want the same thing. And so we’re all shooting for that; we’ve all got the same objectives, and we’ve just got to get better moving forward,” Moore noted.
Quarterback Tyler Shough echoed Moore’s dedication to staying the course and improving. He says he feels the team has a chance to go on a run and change the narrative, and the players share Benson’s expectations for the team.
“I’m glad that it’s coming from the top from that perspective; but at the same time, there’s a lot of really good football ahead of us, and we can take advantage of that. So we want to make sure that she is proud of us, and we can do everything that way,” Shough said.
