Louisiana voters approved seven of the 10 constitutional amendments on the ballot Tuesday. Public Affairs Research Council president Steven Procopio says the amendments that were more straightforward were the ones that received approval.
“You’re looking at things like a post-conviction bail; I think people supported that. I think the term limits they can understand. I think people understood the water lines, that this was a way to increase water lines,” Procopio explained.
Procopio says amendments that had confusing wording did not succeed.
“For example, constitutional amendment 2; you’re looking at change in how millages can roll forward and backward. I think that was probably a complicated one,” Procopio noted.
Procopio says it appears the voters did their homework on the amendments, as there was not a drop off in the number of people who voted on Amendment 1 compared to Amendment 10.
“It was also good to see that people looked at each amendment, because it wasn’t just all up or all down. People were clearly making decisions based upon what they knew,” Procopio said.
