American Idol is holding open auditions at the Baton Rouge Hilton this Sunday just a season after Livingston’s Laine Hardy became the first Louisianan to win the competition.
Senior Supervising Producer with American Idol Patrick Lynn says come prepared with three songs: a show-stopper, a ballad, and a more contemporary tune, and don’t bore us, get to the chorus.
“Don’t spend a lot of time meandering at the beginning of a song that gets to a certain point that you want to show off. Get right into it, give us a verse and a chorus, something good.”
This will be the program’s 18th season.
Lynn wants contestants to keep in mind that it’s not all about the quality of your pipes, they’re looking for stars who can do more than just sing.
“Make eye contact and be a bit of a performer, because you don’t want to stand there with your hands in your pocket looking at the ground because no one wants to see that on TV.”
The auditions begin at 9 AM in the morning and run through 5 PM, and Lynn says everyone is welcome to show up and perform.
“We’re going to be there all day and of course it’s free, so you have nothing to lose.”
