Following a cease and desist from Rutgers University over the use of a block “R” logo, the Ruston High Bearcats have a new logo. Ruston High Principal Dan Gressett says the overhaul isn’t a radical change.
“It’s not a real huge change, but something we felt comfortable with and something that went away from the logo that we were using,” said Gressett.
The two schools have maintained a cordial relationship as Ruston phases out the use of the old logo, and as part of a memorandum of understanding, has ten years to completely phase out the logo use. Gressett says the community feedback has been good for the most part, but some people think the new logo may have been rushed.
“One of the requirements of that MOU was that we not print any new material with that ‘R’ on there, so saying we have ten years, that’s not really the case,” said Gressett.
Gressett says the logo has been circulating social media recently, but the first physical use of the logo can be seen when the Bearcats kick off their football season against Neville High School on September 6th.
“One of our football coaches just reached out to me a couple of days ago and had some stickers made that go on our football helmets, so I think that’s the first place that it’ll be seen,” said Gressett.
