Fourth ranked LSU started slowly but eventually rolled to a 65-14 win over Northwestern State on Saturday night. The defense allowed the Demons to score two touchdowns in the first half and it took awhile before the offense got into a rhythm. Coach Ed Orgeron says there was no yelling on the sideline when LSU had a three-point lead late in the second quarter.
“You know usually in the first quarter I would go a little mad I guess, but I kept cool because I knew we were going to come back,” said Coach Ed Orgeron. “I have confidence in our offense, I have lot of confidence in our offense that they are going to move the ball, I have a lot of confidence in Dave (Aranda) that he’s going to get answers and he did.”
LSU did not allow any points in the second half and the offense ended up producing 610 yards. Another big night for quarterback Joe Burrow, who threw for 373 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
“I think this is who we are as a offense, we are going to throw the ball to open the run,” said Burrow. “We still run for over 100 yards every game, we are going to take what the defense gives us, we are going to keep taking our deep shots and that’s going to open the run game for us,” said Quarterback Joe Burrow.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire was the leading rusher for the Tigers on Saturday. The Baton Rouge product had 50 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns.
LSU will now get ready for the SEC opener as they visit Vanderbilt on Saturday. Kickoff is at 11 AM.
