Tonight is the second televised gubernatorial debate and where candidates will try to sway voters as to why they should lead the state. Council for a Better Louisiana President Barry Erwin says tonight’s debate will focus on issues that may have gotten lost in the shuffle, adding a robust discussion with the candidates has not really occurred yet.
“We’re really looking at things that we believe make a difference in the state and are going to move things forward and try to extract as much information from the candidates as we can,” said Erwin.
Erwin hopes the debate will provide clarity on what candidates will do to tackle many of the issues that will impact the state’s future if elected.
“Infrastructure, issues with the budget, our fiscal structure, also areas where we still have a lot of uncertainty about where some of the candidates actually stand on addressing some of those things,” said Erwin.
The debate airs tonight at 7 on Louisiana Public Broadcasting from UL Lafayette. Erwin says the questioning will come from reporters, and the candidates will get to ask questions of each other.
“We’re looking forward, hopefully, to a debate that’s got some substance and some material that people will find of use before they vote,” said Erwin.
