The gubernatorial candidates asked each other questions at Thursday night’s debate on the UL-Lafayette campus and they did not hold back. Eddie Rispone continued his attack against fellow Republican Ralph Abraham over what he says is disloyalty to President Trump before he was elected. Abraham responded.
“Eddie I’m glad you are glad you are eye-to-eye, man-to-man I know that your consultants out of state have told you that you have to attack me and my family, but you know that those ads you are running against me and my family are lies,” said Abraham.
Rispone claims Abraham dropped his support of Donald Trump before he was elected.
Abraham turned around and went after Governor Edwards, questioning two of his appointments to the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Abraham says these two individuals voted to allow a teacher in Louisiana who allegedly sent sexually inappropriate sexual text messages to minors. The Congressman told the Governor he needs to check into it.
And Edwards responded by saying he does his job, it’s Abraham, who has missed numerous votes in Congress, who does not.
“I do my job Congressman, you are the one who doesn’t do yours,” said Edwards.
Edwards also highlighted Rispone’s past financial support for former Governor Bobby Jindal, saying a Rispone Administration would be Jindal 2.0. Rispone wasn’t taking it.
“Bobby Jindal is not running for governor, I’m running for governor,” said Rispone. “I would like to correct him, I did not support Bobby Jindal for president. That’s a misstatement.
