Officials cut the ribbon Friday on the new Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital today in Baton Rouge after over three years of construction on the five-floor, state-of-the-art facility. President of Children’s Health Trey Dunbar says they will begin moving current patients into the facility on Saturday.
“It’s going to take us about two to three hours to make that move. We are going to have right at about 82 beds in the new children’s hospital,” said Dunbar.
Dunbar anticipates the facility will treat patients from all over Louisiana as well as those traveling in from nearby states.
“Each room is a single patient room, has a bathroom for the child and the family, has some modest sleeping accommodations for the family as well,” said Dunbar.
Dunbar says the total cost of the construction was $230 million, which was funding with the help of many contributions from the community.
“It’s over 60,000 individuals who have contributed to our effort to place a children’s hospital in Baton Rouge,” said Dunbar.
