It’s time for the 5th ranked Fighting Tigers to get tested again.
On a sultry Saturday afternoon in Tiger Stadium, the Bayou Bengals finished off the non-conference portion of its schedule with a dominating 42-6 win over Utah State. Tigers Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 344 yards and five touchdowns as LSU rolled up 601 yards of offense, while an improved defense gave up just 159 yards. LSU Coach Ed Orgeron says that was their most complete game of the season.
“We ran the football like we wanted to run it, we controlled the clock, we kept the ball away from their offense, out defense tackled well in space, I think we played lights out on defense to hold those guys without a touchdown, it was a phenomenal day,” said Orgeron.
Utah State was just 1-of-12 on 3rd downs, while the Tigers were 11-of-17.
Phillip Queen led the defense with six tackles, three of them for a loss. LSU intercepted three passes and held the Aggies to just 19 yards of offense.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire led LSU in rushing with 72 yards on 14 carries. Justin Jefferson had another huge game, nine catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns.
LSU will finally jump into SEC play for good when the Tigers host Florida on October 12th for a much appreciated 7 PM kick-off.
