The Saints improved to 4-1 on the season and 3-0 with Teddy Bridgewater as their starting quarterback as New Orleans topped Tampa Bay 31-24. Bridgewater threw an interception in the first half, but he was nearly perfect after that as he threw for 314 yards and four touchdowns. Coach Sean Payton says it was good to see.
“He got into a rhythm and I thought like we did a good job protecting for him, we got the ball down the field more and a bunch of different guys made plays and I was happy to see some of the longer throws and the way he played,” said Payton.
Eleven of Bridgewater’s completions went to wide receiver Michael Thomas, who finished 182 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Bridgewater targeted Thomas 13 times.
The Saints defense was also very good in this game as they held the Bucs to 3-of-11 on third down, 252 total yards and had six sacks.
New Orleans is at Jacksonville this Sunday. The Jaguars fell to the Panthers 34-27. Carolina continues to win without Cam Newton and they are 3-2 in the NFC South and in second place.
