An area of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression and possibly a tropical storm according to the National Hurricane Center.
National Weather Service Slidell Meteorologist Michael Hill says forecasts show the system moving away from Mexico, and heading towards the central Gulf coast this weekend.
“It’s expected to move closer to Louisiana by Friday night or Saturday, but as to the exact track, it is still too early to tell exactly where it will go,” says Hill.
Hill says depending on which way the storm tilts over the next two days, we could be looking at a very wet weekend.
“If it goes a little further west, then I believe we will get much more rain, if it goes a little further east, then we might not get any rain,” says Hill.
There is some good news though, Hill says even if we do get bulls-eyed by the system, it’s unlikely to do anything other than dump some rain on the region.
“If anything it will be a tropical depression, maybe an outside chance of a storm, but more than likely it will not become anything major for us to worry about,” says Hill.
Hill says the rainy weather will combine with an incoming cold front that is set to send temperatures into the 50s tomorrow morning.
