A Pineville man has been arrested and charged with 250 counts of online impersonation after allegedly posing as a woman on social media sites to solicit sexually explicit photos from women.
46-year-old Kevin P. Miles was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center. State Police Master Trooper Scott Moreau says it was a long-running fraud.
“Miles used a fake social media account for over ten years, and it was to communicate and or exchange images with over 1,000 social media users,” says Moreau.
Moreau says it’s highly illegal to use other people’s identity online, which is the basis for Miles’ charges.
“A person cannot use someone else’s picture or identity and act in a social media platform as a real person for any gain without that person’s consent or permission,” says Moreau.
The investigation began in July, and authorities gathered enough evidence to get a warrant on Mile’s home.
Moreau says it’s a highly unusual case, and he knows people have a lot of questions about this, but they have to remain tight-lipped.
“One, because we don’t want to do anything to jeopardize the integrity of the investigation, and two because also we have to protect the victim’s identity,” says Moreau.
