LSU is ranked number one in the AP Top 25 poll for the first time since 2011. Saturday’s win over Auburn, LSU’s third victory over a Top 10 team, convinced enough voters to rank the Bayou Bengals over number two Alabama and number three Ohio State. Assistant Tiger Rag Editor Tyler Nunez says there’s not much separation between the top three teams.
“The voting is razor-thin, the difference between LSU and Ohio State is six voting points,” said Nunez.
LSU, Bama and Ohio State are off this Saturday, so that likely means LSU will be ranked number one when they visit Tuscaloosa on November 9th. Nunez says Oklahoma’s loss to Kansas State on Saturday helps LSU’s chances of making the college football playoff.
“With this win against Auburn, they are close as securing a spot in the playoff, even with a loss to Alabama,” said Nunez.
After throwing for another 321 yards and a touchdown against Auburn, Tiger Rag Editor James Moran says LSU Quarterback Joe Burrow continues to distance himself from the other Heisman Trophy candidates.
“If he beats Alabama, he’s going to win the Heisman unless it’s a shocking 9-6 game, which I don’t think anybody expects at this moment,” said Moran.
