The eight game losing streak to Alabama is over. The Fighting Tigers went into Tuscaloosa on Saturday and beat the Crimson Tide 46-41 in a game that was quite the departure from LSU’s last victory over Bama, 9-6 victory in 2011. Coach Ed Orgeron told the guys before the game they were the better team.
“We took a big step in beating Alabama obviously, I knew we were the better team, I didn’t think we were out physical at all I thought we can handle them physically, now they made some plays, we made some plays, but I think we are there where we need to be,” said Orgeron.
The victory puts the Tigers in the driver’s seat to win the SEC west and play in the conference championship game in December. The Bayou Bengals still have three more regular season games and Orgeron says he will not let his team become complacent.
“We didn’t play so well in some spots, we are going to get better and then we are going to focus on beating Ole Miss. This team has gotten better every game and I want them to continue to get better, just take the next step,” said Orgeron.
Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 393 yards and three touchdowns and he’s now the frontrunner to win the Heisman Trophy. Burrow says that’s not his number one goal.
“I realize team success breeds all of the individual awards that’s all that’s really ever mattered to me winning games, when my stats were not great last year, we were winning games, I’m going to say the same thing this year as I said last year,” said Burrow.
