La Tech has unveiled plans for new baseball, softball and soccer stadiums. They were destroyed last April by a tornado. Athletics Director Tommy McClelland says the new baseball stadium will remain in the same place, while softball and soccer will relocate next to the track stadium. Construction will take several months.
“So softball and baseball would be for the 2021 season and soccer would be for the 2020 season, it would be a challenge and obviously that’s why we have to get started as soon as possible,” said McClelland.
FEMA reimbursement, insurance, state dollars and private donors will pay for the new facilities. But McClelland is not releasing an expected price tag…
“I know what the ballpark is, but I am not right now at liberty to tell you that, because we are walking through some very formal steps in the process through federal and state, but we did not have this press conference without the state’s permission,” said McClelland.
The new softball stadium will hold one-thousand fans, soccer 750 and the new baseball stadium will have a capacity of 25-hundred. McClelland says there will be chair-back seats with berm seating at the new Love Shack, some of the seating will be partially covered and once fans enter the concourse they never have to leave.
“So as you go to the restroom or you go to concessions, you never really lose sight of the field, if you have been to Biloxi where are conference championship is held, it’s very similar where the concourse as a view of the field,” said McClelland.
