The Saints raced out to a 14-0 lead but needed a 33-yard game-winning field goal by Will Lutz as time expired to beat the Panthers 34-31 at the Superdome on Sunday. Lutz connected on his field goal a couple of minutes after Carolina missed a field goal to give them their first lead. Drew Brees marched the team 65 yards for the winning score.
Brees threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns. He was also intercepted once, which led to Carolina tying the game. The Saints also committed 12 penalties. One of the penalties came after a video replay on pass interference that was originally not called by the officials on the field.
Coach Sean Payton said it wasn’t the Saints game, but it wasn’t a good game for New York either, alluding to the questionable pass interference call.
New Orleans has a short week as they will the visit the Atlanta Falcons on Thanksgiving night.
