With Thanksgiving on the way, drivers need to be aware of the Click it or Ticket campaign that will run this week. State Police Lt. Nick Manale says state troopers and local law enforcement will be on the lookout to see if drivers are buckled up…
“We know because of the thanksgiving holiday week that there is going to see an increase in traffic which is also going to lead to increase in motor vehicle crashes. Make the smart decision to make sure that every occupant in your vehicle is properly restrained.”
The increased surveillance may lead to more tickets given out but Manale says a ticket is better than a tragedy…
“One of the worst things that we can see is the outcome of bad choices behind the wheel in motor vehicles and leading to a tragic outcome during a holiday which is supposed to be a festive time of year.”
Louisiana’s front seat belt use rate for 2018 is 86.9 percent but Manele says everyone in the car needs to be safe…
“We see that with the effect of a decrease in seatbelt related fatalities on our roadways but of course we always want to strive to do better, and of course making sure that precious cargo. our children, in those vehicles are also properly restrained.”
