Major General Glenn Curtis is stepping down as leader of Louisiana’s National Guard and will be replaced by Brigadier General Keith Wadell on January 10th. Curtis was first appointed to the position in 2011. Governor John Bel Edwards says General Curtis provided leadership during turbulent times.
“We had numerous natural disasters, some manmade incidents, and some cyberattacks and so forth, severe flooding, but he was there every step of the way with steadfast, sterling leadership,” said Edwards.
Curtis first joined the Guard in 1982.
Curtis’ second in command will step into the position after 25 years in the Guard. Curtis celebrated the soon-to-be top general.
“He is a steadfast leader, makes great decisions, has great vision, and will take this organization to new heights of readiness and preparedness,” said Curtis.
Wadell is currently the assistant principal of Westlake High School in Calcasieu Parish, where he also coaches.
Edwards says the appointment of Wadell will continue to make the Louisiana National Guard one of the best in the nation both in wars abroad and at home.
“I am confident that should we face adversity that our Louisiana National Guard will always be ready and stand strong to assist the people of Louisiana and as we always know it’s not a question of if, but when,” says Edwards.
