Drew Brees breaks Peyton Manning’s 539 career passing touchdown record as the Saints crushed the Colts 34-7 in the Dome. Coach Sean Payton had a game plan to throw early and often with a chance to break the record in front of the home crowd. The record-breaking touchdown pass came in the third quarter on a pass to tight end Josh Hill.
“Play call comes in and I’m thinking touchdown and the minute we walk up to the ball and I see the look and I say definitely a touchdown, it played out just the way we thought,” said Brees.
Brees passed for four TDs and 307 yards and broke the single-game passing percentage record, going 29 of 30 through the air. New Orleans is also 11-and-3 and still in a position to get the number one seed in the NFC playoffs.
“Look honestly the win means a lot,” said Coach Sean Payton. “There’s going to be a day when we all ride off into the sunset, but it’s not now, there’s a lot of stake right now relative to these games.”
Up next a trip to Tennessee to face the Titans, who are still in contention for a playoff spot in the AFC.
Also, the Saints have reportedly claimed veteran cornerback Janoris Jenkins off waivers. The Giants waived the Pro Bowler on Friday after he went on Twitter and called a fan a “retard.” Jenkins has four interceptions on the season.
