Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s deputies conduct a major drug bust on Interstate 20, discovering about $900,000 in meth. Sheriff’s office spokesperson Glenn Springfield says the Special Crimes Apprehension Team was working last night when they noticed the suspicious vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
“They observed a vehicle on the interstate out on the western part of the parish around 9PM (Tuesday) night, being operated erratically. He kept bumping the outside fog line of the roadways and the rear lights were defective,” said Springfield.
Springfield says while talking to the suspect, he consented to a search of a vehicle and deputies deployed a K-9 on the vehicle.
“The dog alerted to a welding machine that was in the truck and it was found to contain approximately nine kilos of methamphetamine. It was a street value of about $900,000,” said Springfield.
With the large number of drugs that are trafficked on the interstates that pass through Louisiana, Springfield says this is something that officials are always keeping an eye out for.
“Certainly we are. I-20, I-10, they are major thruways and we are constantly working the effort to prevent them from getting through here and make the arrest,” said Springfield.
The suspect has been identified as Jose Luis Sosa of Houston.
