Former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow may have collected many accolades during his time as a Tiger, but he now has a new honor at the BREC Baton Rouge Zoo. Zoo spokesperson Robyn Lott says the public nominated and then voted on the top three names for a baby giraffe and “Burreaux” was the one to stick.
“We had an overwhelming landslide winner in Burreaux, which was not a shock to any of us in this area,” said Lott.
After filtering through the nominations, zoo officials picked the top three names which also included Romeo and Kiume, which is Swahili for masculine and strong. Lott says through the voting the zoo was able to raise over $2000.
“Each of the votes was $1 and the funds that have been raised go toward conservation funding for the zoo,” said Lott.
Burreaux is on exhibit Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Lott says Burreaux is the twentieth giraffe to be born at the zoo.
“It’s extra special for us because it’s an endangered species, so we just invite the public to come out and take a look. He’s precious and adorable and he’s moving with a lot of speed these days, so it’s the perfect Instagram opportunity,” said Lott.
