Schools are closed for a second week and parents are turning to other methods to educate their children, like homeschooling or online learning. Head of Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy Danielle Scott says designate an area for learning.
“Children shouldn’t be in there bed, they should be away from all distractions and high areas of distraction, like the TV on,” said Scott.
Scott says children also need a routine, so parents should create a schedule for their child.
“It helps them to know what to expect to do, when to do it, know when the work is best during the day and schedule accordingly and it’s also important to build in the breaks and playtime,” said Scott.
Scott says when parents observe their child struggling, they need to resist the urge to help them immediately.
“In the beginning, you have to do allow that time for everybody to embrace this change when you are working with them on educational lessons, if they struggle that’s okay, give them the time to learn and to wrestle with whatever they are working on,” said Scott.
