Update: Drew Brees gave a strong response to Donald Trump Friday night after the President said that the Saints quarterback should not have taken back his original stance that we should stand to honor the flag during the national anthem. In a social media post directed to the President, Brees says we can no longer use the flag to turn people away or distract them from the real issues that face our black communities.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees has apologized for his controversial comments regarding players kneeling during the national anthem. Brees said in an interview with Yahoo Finance that he will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag.
In an apology posted on Instagram Thursday, Brees says he’s asking for forgiveness and he’s heartbroken over the pain he’s caused.
Brees has received a lot of criticism for not understanding why players took a knee during an anthem.
On social media, Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas said Brees does not know any better. Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins posted a couple of videos, one was taken down, but Jenkins said he had a great deal of respect for him, but sometimes you should shut up. He says Brees’ statements were hurtful, insensitive, and called him part of the problem.
Brees now says his comments were insenstitive and completely missed the mark. The record breaking QB says he stands with the black community in the fight against systemic racial injustice and police brutality. He says he’ll always be an ally with the black community, not an enemy.
Comments
