Authorities are seeking those responsible for gunfire that left two people are dead at a large gathering in Raceland. Just after midnight on Sunday morning, Lt. Brennan Matherne says the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call about a disturbance on St. Louis Street.
“It was a large party, possibly with upwards of 100 to 200 people in attendence, mostly young people. Shortly after our deputies arrived, they heard several gunshots ring out,” said Matherne.
Matherne say two females, 21-year-old Aliza Gabriel and 20-year-old Tanasa Francis, both of Raceland, were shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
“Both are believed to be innocent bystanders as the lone gunman or multiple gunmen were firing indiscriminately into the crowd, at least that is our belief at this time,” said Matherne.
Matherne says investigators strongly urge eyewitnesses present to come forward with information, video, or photos from the scene.
“Someone not only saw what happened but we know that someone had to have known who was involved or who was driving a car or what vehicle those people arrived in,” said Matherne.
