For the first time since 2000 ULM and LA Tech football will play after the two teams agree to a November 21st contest at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.
The game comes as both teams were scrambling to fill replace their previously scheduled games against SEC opponents. LA Tech Athletics Director Tommy McClelland calls it a great opportunity.
“It presents the best opportunity in this year to fill a need for both programs and also have the opportunity to hopefully sell some tickets,” says McClelland.
ULM was set to play Arkansas and Tech had Vanderbilt this season until the SEC decided to move to a conference-only schedule. Those were key money games for the two and both teams say they are working on a buyout offer from their SEC opponents.
The two teams are less than an hour away from each other along the I-20, and ULM AD Scott McDonald says he knows fans are getting excited.
“Playing people that you grew up with, that you work with, that you worship with, that sort of thing takes on a little extra meaning,” says McDonald.
Tech leads the series 30-13.
McDonald says the whole region has fond memories of the series.
“What I remember most was the whole campus was alive the week before that game,” says McDonald.
Neither AD would commit to this being anything other than a onetime reinstatement of the series.
