Entergy restarts one of its power plants in Calcasieu Parish. Entergy spokesperson David Freese says crews brought the Calcasieu Plant online in part by sending power to the facility by way of a repaired transmission line damaged by Hurricane Laura.
“A restart of that plant essentially paves the way to restore power to additional communities in the Lake Charles and Sulphur areas, so that will bring power to a couple thousand initially,” said Freese.
Freese estimates around 13,000 storm restoration workers are on the ground. While it is possible they have wrapped up work near a location still without power, there is more work that is needed to get power restored.
“It’s possible that there is still transmission damage in your area, so its not so much a restoration as it is a rebuild,” said Freese.
Freese says the customers outside of southwest Louisiana already have their lights back on.
“We completed restoration efforts not long ago in north Louisiana and we still have some restoration efforts taking place in Jefferson Davis Parish but our efforts are certainly focused on the hard-hit area of Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes,” said Freese.
