A technical issue resulted in 7,600 unemployment claimants receiving an erroneous message claiming they owed overpayment money to the state and feds.
Louisiana Workforce Commission Secretary Ava Dejoie said they are working with their vendor to resolve the issue, and it should be taken care of without most claimants needing to get involved.
“We are working internally to resolve these issues so that that is not something that they will have to contend with,” said Dejoie.
The error resulted in some receiving requests for over ten thousand dollars of back payments.
The overpayment notices were generated on September 9th and 10th and effected beneficiaries who made their claims on March 29th and 30th. Dejoie said the wrong eligibility period was calculated and they apologize.
Dejoie said they’ve worked fast to fix the problem. “Already this morning most of these individuals have a notice on their dashboard in higher correcting it and informing them of the correction.”
